The History of the Site of the Executive Inn Hotel & Convention Center
The Vincennes Executive Inn was built in the middle 1950s. Bob Green, a community father of Vincennes built a small chain of Executive Inn's in Indiana and Kentucky. He ran the hotels along with his successful coal mining activities, in the state.
Prior to its being The Executive Inn Hotel & Convention Center, as it is viewed today, there stood two previous establishments. The latter known as the Ramada Inn is part of the current building and stood alone from 1966 to 1970. This was preceded by the Covered Wagon Lodge which was built in the early 1930s. Yes, located directly in front of the lodge was an original Covered Wagon. Upon checking in, children would often ask their parents, even to the point of insisting, that they be allowed to sleep in the wagon. Naturally this wasn't feasible because there was one small problem - it stood on a platform approximately thirty feet in the air.
The story does not originate from the Covered Wagon because of yet another slight twist. You see the motel originally was not a motel at all, but was a horse stable later converted to the lodge.
